English services

Delft is an international city, home to people from all over the world. As an open and engaged community, we wish to be welcoming to everyone. Naturally that applies to our services in Dutch, but as those can sometimes be challenging to follow for non-native speakers, we also organize services in English. If you are looking for a place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, for a place to pray or to reflect, or simply a place to enjoy, please feel welcome. We understand that people come in with their own backgrounds, culture, and beliefs; all are welcome in our church.

English services at St. Mary’s and St. Ursula’s usually follow the Anglican tradition. Some are in the traditional style of the Book of Common Prayer, in others we use modern styles from the Book of Alternative Services and the books of Common Worship.

During the 2024 / 2025 season, we organize two types of services: Choral Evensongs and Evening Prayers. The Choral Evensongs are sung by a choir, often a project choir lead by a top English conductor. Participation in upcoming editions is still possible. The Evening Prayers are spoken services, in which the voices of all join in prayer. For this year, we’ve chosen ‘Old Testament stories’ as the theme for these services, and instead of a sermon, we will be re-telling the stories, as they were passed on in spoken form throughout the generations before they were finally written down.
